To Infinity and Beyond...

Brian here.

Throughout the nation's history, the United States has been part of the 'space-race' with launching rockets and shuttles up into the great unknown.  While living on the Space Coast of America, we have had the blessing to experience seeing, hearing, and being part of history.  We have only been here for a few months but have dealt with these launches already!  We watched a few rockets launch off from either our parking lot, beach, or pier (that in itself is really cool).

Last month, one of the space shuttles, Endeavor, left the space coast to go to Los Angeles at the California Space Center for display and viewing for the public.  The unfortunate event occurred though, I had to leave super early to get to work in Orlando and could not see the shuttle take off and leave.  Staci however got to see the shuttle leave the Space Center on her way to work while listening to the live event on the radio.  She said that when it lifted off, everyone (including her) pulled off to the side of the road and got out of their cars to view the event. (SO JEALOUS!)  She got back into her car and continued to drive to work.  On the street before her school, more people started pulling over and looking up; with Staci being the careful driver, she did not know what was going on or why people were doing this.  She then realized that the space shuttle while being carried by a Boing 747 and escorted by fighter jets was right above her. She looked out her window as it flew by, flying low. Why am I so unfortunate to miss this experience?!

A month later, present time, another shuttle was being moved.  The space shuttle Atlantis was being moved 10 miles to the Kennedy Space Center.  The 10 miles took the shuttle over 12 hours; an all day event!  We both worked that day so could not view the transportation of the shuttle but heard on the news that it was up for viewing while construction was happening for a little bit.  We thought it would be cool to go see it.  So, we hopped in the convertible and drove to the space center to see another space shuttle.  As we were getting closer to the space center, we noticed there were cars on the side the road with people out and about.  We did the same thing and pulled a u-turn and got out of the car.

There it was.  A space shuttle that has been in space and it was right before our eyes.  I know that you are probably thinking "that's not that cool" but I say, "Come down here and we'll show you how cool it is."  Staci informed me then that there are only 3 shuttles in the world, and she's seen two.
